MARGOT DE TAXCO VTG MEXICAN STERLING SILVER ENAMEL MARIPOSA PENDANT NECKLACE. This is an EXTRAORDINARY sterling silver and champleve enamel pendant/brooch that was hand wrought in Taxco, Mexico, after 1948, by silver maestra, MARGOT van VOORHIES CARR?1985 of MARGOT de TAXCO. Margot moved to Mexico City with friends from San Francisco in 1937. She was introduced to Antonio Castillo by Antonio's sister, Maria.
Antonio and Margot married while Antonio was still working for William Spratling's Las Delicias. Margot and Antonio divorced after about 10 years and Margot opened MARGOT DE TAXCO in 1948. "As the Stars are to the Night, So are Jewels to the Woman" was on her calling card this statement represents Margot's dedication to designing classical and feminine art-to-wear jewelry that is elegantly timeless. Margot de Taxco jewelry is a wonderful investment and the value will only appreciate with time. This spectacular pendant/brooch is masterfully crafted in a classically elegant and sophisticated motif that has a wonderful art nouveau look. Margot consistently marked her jewelry with a design number and her sterling and enamel pieces were numbered 5109 through 5922 the brooch/pendant is design #5628. The identical Margot de Taxco brooch is featured on page 52, photo plate I-3, in Dr. Morrill's book referenced in the previous paragraph and is known as the "butterfly of many colors".
My jeweler made a custom sterling pendant adaptor that slips over the pin portion on the clasp so that it may be worn on the new Mexican sterling silver necklace that is included with this sale. The butterfly brooch/pendant is absolutely magnificent and it is exquisitely detailed it has intricate sterling silver designs that are inlaid with melange champleve enamel with a gorgeous orchestration of blues, turquoise, greens, gold, and white other rich and sumptuous champleve enamel inlay in solid colors of jet black, ruby red, azure blue, and sunny yellow. This is a versatile piece as you may wear it alone as a brooch, on the sterling necklace that is included, or on one of your own necklaces or velvet ribbon chokers are really HOT right now! SIZE: Pendant: Length is 1-7/8", width is 2-1/8", and weight is 25.3 grams. Sterling collar: Inside circumference is 15-1/4" plus the 2" opening in the back for a total of 17-1/4" (is somewhat adjustable), width is 3/16", and weight is 11.3 grams.

CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition no dings/dents to the silverwork no missing or damaged enamel it appears that the pin clasp has been professionally replaced minor scratches due to loving wear and age just about PERFECT used condition!
